Now doll-lovers in the UAE will have a rare opportunity to see some of the finest dolls from many different parts of the world including a large collection of Victorian porcelain dolls. objects of great value. In fact, dolls have been considered the special domain of children for only about a hundred years. We really feel proud to host this unique exhibition and have a beautiful surprise in store for the guests who attend the preview.” |

Hina Bakht, Vice-President, MPJ, has been collecting dolls for nearly two decades now. Says she, “Doll-making is one of the world’s oldest crafts. The material used for making dolls is very often linked to the era and level of development of the place and its people. Whereas in the ancient times dolls were mostly made of stone, wood, clay, metal, leather, rags, paper, porcelain; in modern days rubber and plastic have come to replace these.” An interesting aspect of doll craft is that some artists can do a doll resembling your near and dear ones. Says Judy Ren, an internationally-acclaimed designer of dolls who specializes in Victorian porcelain dolls and was recently in Dubai. “We do a lot of custom-made dolls. On special request we can create look-alikes of people as well as their entire families.”
Talking about this unique exhibition, Says Hina, “Like every other craft, traditional doll-making is a dying art kept alive by a handful of artists. By providing these artists a platform to showcase their creativity and skills, Corp Executive Hotel Apartments – Al Barsha wishes to support their efforts in keeping alive the rich craft of doll-making.” The exhibition will open on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 7.00pm with a unique doll show. Make-up artists from top brands will create the ‘Porcelain Beauties’ who would be dressed in special attires designed by none other than Francois Desroches.
