Holiday Inn Dubai - Al Barsha Participates In Can Collection Campaign As Part Of Green Initiatives

February 24 marked the annual Can Collection Day organised by the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), and the Holiday Inn Dubai – Al Barsha again was a key participant in the Re-use, Reduce, Recycle initiative as part of management’s commitment to green and social operating practices.

Spearheaded by Director of Engineering Mukhtar Hussain, the hotel’s own Go Green procedures have included a range of innovations such as a heat recovery system that have already reduced budgeted costs.


Through a Green Engage campaign, regular meetings bring together representatives from all hotel departments to commit to property-wide good practices including the implementation of all municipality regulations, while Mukhtar Hussain has also introduced a Go Green corner in the staff quarters to encourage participation and team suggestions for new ideas as well as regular updates on green issues.

Taking the EEG Re-use, Reduce and Recycle campaign as a blueprint, he has additonally extended the concept to cover paper, cartons, cooking oil, cans and bottles used within the Holiday Inn Dubai – Al Barsha, and daily monitors use of utilities’ consumption to analyse areas of potential reduction. According to General Manager Reda Moukhtar, the nomination of Mukhtar Hussain as Green Hotelier of the Year in 2010 demonstrates both his and his team’s commitment to maintain the green credentials of the Holiday Inn Dubai – Al Barsha. “His dedicated efforts have helped in creating an environmentally friendly culture and reduced costs, without compromising on quality – and the recent participation of the hotel in the EEG Can Collection Campaign underlines this ongoing commitment,” he said.
